AFP expects no drastic moves from Maute group after patriarch's death

From the Philippine News Agency (Aug 28): AFP expects no drastic moves from Maute group after patriarch's death

While it expects the morale of the remaining Maute Group terrorists to plummet with the death of Cayamora Maute, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is not expecting the lawless elements to commit atrocities worse than what they have done so far in Marawi City.

This was stressed on Monday by AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Eduardo Año.

"Wala na, wala nang drastic drastic dyan, alam mo naman yung pinaggagawa nila, wala na sigurong ida-drastic pa sa pinaggagawa nila nung nakaraan, simula nung day 1 (May 23) (No more, no more drastic moves. There is nothing more drastic than what they have done since day 1) ," he said when asked whether the AFP is expecting any more atrocities or trouble from the terrorists.

On the first day of their rampage, Maute group members shot and killed unarmed civilians and security troops aside from looting, vandalizing and destroying private and government properties, including churches, schools and business establishments.

Cayamora, father of the terror group's founders Omar and Abdullah Maute, died at the Taguig-Pateros District Hospital on Sunday afternoon due to medical complications.

The Maute patriarch was transferred to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City last June 8 shortly after his arrest in Davao City on June 6.
