Another soldier returned home in a casket in Negros Oriental.

The remains of PFC Nilbert Dedales, a member of the Special Forces Regiment (Airborne), Special Operations Command of the Philippine Army, was given full military honors during its arrival at the Dumaguete Airport Friday, the 79th Infantry Battalion said.

Dedales, of Brgy. Tayawan, Bayawan City in Negros Oriental, was the sixth Negrense soldier killed in Marawi City in the fighting between government forces and the ISIS-inspired Maute terrorist group, that is now on its third month since May 23.

The five other Negrense “heroes”, who were already laid to rest, included 2Lt. Macglen Abuyabor of Bais City, Negros Oriental, SSgt. Joseph Villanueva of La Castellana, PFC Ramonito Occena III of Sipalay City, Cpl. Ariel Arquio of Cauayan, and Corporal Arjhay Baroa of San Carlos City, all in Negros Occidental.

They were honored yesterday during the commemoration of National Heroes Day, with 124 other soldiers and policemen, who died in the fighting in Marawi.
