US long-range patrol aircraft operating in Philippines

From Update Philippines (Jun 1): US long-range patrol aircraft operating in Philippines

The Philippine armed forces is getting minimal help from the United States military for its operation in Marawi City.

National Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said some American assets are in the country but are being used for other purposed. He added that the government forces have enough equipment to contain terrorists in Marawi City.

He said during a press conference in Malacañang earlier this day that Philippines is getting assistance “through the operation of their (US) drones, the shadows, they have three birds operating there and they are giving us intelligence, information. But I don’t think they have some here in Marawi that is too far away from Zamboanga where operate the shadows, malayo kasi masyado.”

“They still have, yung kanilang long-range aircraft na nandito ngayon [in Philippines], but very little [operation] for Marawi. A lot for other areas like South China Sea, Sulu Sea, Basilan marami silang binibigay sa atin (information). But here [for Marawi], just very minimal,” he added.

“I don’t think we need to ask because we already have a lot of equipment to contain this Marawi incident,” Secretary Lorenzana noted.
