Procurement of 6 Close Air Support, 2 Long-range Patrol aircraft to be completed

From Update Philippines (Apr 26): Procurement of 6 Close Air Support, 2 Long-range Patrol aircraft to be completed

The acquisition of 6 Close Air Support (CAS) aircraft, 2 Long-range Patrol (LRP) aircraft will be pursued by the government and military, this was confirmed by Department of National Defense (DND) to Update Philippines. These two major projects are included in Revised Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Modernization Program (RAFPMP) First Horizon, 2013-2017.

Moreover, acquisition of munitions for FA-50PH ‘Fighting Eagle’ aircraft is still ongoing.

“The leadership of the Department of National Defense and the Armed Forces of the Philippines will pursue the implementation of the approved projects which are not yet contracted or completed under the First Horizon (2013-2017) of the Revised AFP Modernization Program (RAFPMP),” DND said.

“Projects such as the CAS aircraft, LRPA and FA-50 Munitions are still in various stages of procurement,” it added.

The DND has scheduled the pre-bid conference for CAS aircraft acquisition on May 3, 2017.

CAS aircraft, LRPAs, FA-50 munitions along with 2 brand new frigates, 8 Amphibious Assault Vehicles (AAVs), 2 anti-submarine warfare (ASW) helicopters, and 3 surveillance radars were approved by the Aquino administration to be procured under multi-year contracts.

However, contracts for AAVs (awarded to South Korean Hanwha Techwin), ASW helicopters (awarded to AgustaWestland now Leonardo), and radars (awarded to Israeli Elta System) were only signed under his watch early 2016, while contract for frigates was warded to South Korea’s Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) under the Duterte administration later in 2016.
