Jonelo Daluyon Balabag, alias Joel, 25, a resident of Purok 1, Barangay Matalang, Lakewood, Zamboanga del Sur, surrendered to the troops of the 53rd Infantry Battalion led by Lieutenant Colonel Virgilio Hamos, Jr. in Camp Major David Sabido in Guipos, same province ,at around 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Balabag, who is a member of the SYP-KARA, Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee, also turned-over his M16 rifle, with three long steel and four short steel magazines loaded with ammunition, to Hamos.

Balabag said during the debriefing by the troops that the continuous combat operations forced the NPA to move day and night.

With the limited food supply and the difficulty in evading the Government forces, he decided to surrender to the troops.

“I commend the efforts of the JTF Zampelan for this recent accomplishment,” Lieutenant General Carlito G. Galvez, Jr., the commander of the AFP Western Mindanao Command, said.

“We call on the other members of the NPA to do the same. This is high time for them to lay down their arms and surrender, for the chance of living a peaceful life with their family and loved ones.”

“We also recognize the support our troops are getting from the local government units and the community. Truly with our unified efforts, we can achieve milestones and breakthroughs,” he added.
