From the Philippine News Agency (Apr 7): AFP, partner agencies capable of limited response to CBRN incidents
The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and its partner agencies are capable of dealing with chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) attack -- albeit in a limited manner.
This was the response of AFP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Restituto Padilla when asked about the country's capability in dealing with CBRN attack in wake of the chemical strike that killed and injured dozens of people in Syria.
"The government through some of its agencies are ready to meet it (CBRN threat) on a limited scale, these agencies include the Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP), the Department of Health (DOH), the AFP to name a few, and this capability we need to build up some more because of these kinds of incidents," he said.
Padilla, hbowever, said the AFP's current capability to respond to CBRN threats is enough to respond to any threat of this nature with the help of the BFP and DOH.
A typical approach in dealing with CBRN incidents include identifying the target area, isolating it to prevent further incidents of contamination, deploying assets capable of neutralizing or containing the threats, he added.
