From Update.Ph (Jan 25): Coast Guard conducts Sea-Borne law enforcement exercise with Japanese officials

The Philippine Coast Guard has conducted the 11th Sea-Borne Maritime Law Enforcement (MARLEN) Training Exercise with officers from Japanese Coast Guard and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) MARLEN experts.

Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said the training exercise was conducted at the vicinity waters off Manila Bay and Headquarters Coast Guard Ready Force (HCGRF), Pier 13, South Harbor, Manila this morning January 25.

“A table-top exercise, scenario information, preparatory exercise, actual exercise and review meeting will be conducted from 24 to 26 January 2017,” the Coast Guard said.

PCG said the objective of MARLEN exercise is to further develop the skills of PCG personnel aboard its floating assets in addressing illegal fishing activities by foreign vessels and to enhance the PCG Command and Control concept with proper communication line.

Japanese Coast Guard officials and JICA MARLEN experts attended the exercise as observers and critiques, PCG said.
