Philippines finalises Russian military procurement targets

From IHS Janes 360 (Nov 30): Philippines finalises Russian military procurement targets

The Philippines is preparing to finalise a list of military requirements it hopes to secure from Russia, officials in Manila have confirmed.

The southeast Asian nation is known to be prioritising the acquisition from Russia of long-range sniper rifles but a range of big-ticket items are also being considered including submarines, fighter aircraft, and combat helicopters.

The Philippines defence secretary Delfin Lorenzana plans to visit Moscow in early December to discuss with Russian defence officials the requirements of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

It is understood that any Philippine acquisition would be supported by export credit provided by Moscow banks, with repayment spread over two decades.
