Philippine Army pistol shooters have dominated the second match of pistol men category in the ASEAN Armies Rifle Meet being held at Camp O’Donnell, Capas, Tarlac.

The competition started November 28 and will culminate December 7. Sgt Benito Sumalag Jr bagged the gold while his teammate Ssg Mar Udan got the bronze medal with Thai shooter SM1 Thanawut bagging the silver medal in the said category.

Infantry weapons, widely used by Southeast Asian militaries, including 7.62mm machine gun, 5.56mm M-16 automatic rifle, 5.56mm carbine rifle and 9mm pistol, are being used in the ASEAN Armies Rifle Meet.
 
“9mm pistols are agreed by the Army shooters to be the handgun of the ARMM 2016. For the Philippine Army shooters, participating in this event, 9mm pistols are ARMSCOR made,” Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) public affairs office chief Capt. Alberto Caber said.

ASEAN is composed of Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, Brunei Darussalam, the Philippines, Laos, Myanmar, and Cambodia.
