Grenade blast hurts 3 children inside military camp in Abra

From GMA News (Dec 22): Grenade blast hurts 3 children inside military camp in Abra

A grenade blast injured three children inside a military camp in Abra province’s Lagangilang town, a television report said Thursday.

Quoting a military official, Unang Balita reported that the children went into a firing range and played with the discarded rifle grenade.

Lt. Col. Thomas Dominic Baluga, commanding officer of the 24th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army, said that while playing inside the camp’s firing range, the children saw the grenade and picked it up. One of them tossed it but it went off upon landing on the ground.

Col. Baluga said that the wounded children were rushed to a nearby hospital and the Army shouldered all the hospital expenses.

Two of the victims are children of soldiers, the report said.
