From the Philippine News Agency (Nov 29): DND chief to visit Russia next week
Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Delfin Lorenzana announced he will visit Russia next week to "window shop" for military equipment which might be acquired as part of efforts to beef up the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
High in the equipment list is the sniper rifles which Russians are known to design and manufacture well.
"We will visiting Russia to look into some of their military equipment which we can acquire, one of the first things we will look into is their sniper rifles," Lorenzana said during the sidelights of the DND's 77th founding anniversary Tuesday.
The DND chief said they are expected to leave for Russia either Dec. 3, 4, or 5 at the latest.
Another objective of the visit is to talk about the country's defense relationship with Russia, he added.
