Reports reaching Manila indicated that a firefight raged on Sunday in the town of Butig, Lanao del Sur where four soldiers have been hurt, so far, and at least 11 members of the terrorist Maute group have been killed.

The band of terrorists reoccupied their old lair five months after they were flushed out by a major military offensive.

Major Filemon Tan Jr., spokesman of the Western Mindanao Command (Wesmincom), said the terrorists barged into an old and abandoned municipal building, defending their position there.

"The armed conflict has driven residents from other areas of the town fleeing for their safety abandoning their homes," Tan said of the civilians living in the periphery of the building.

Tan said the terrorists "raised the ISIS (Islamic State n Iraq and Syria) flag" at the top of the building.

He said the military is in containment mode, preventing the situation from escalating or spilling to other areas.
