Pinay officer named best student at UK naval college

From InterAksyon (Aug 16): Pinay officer named best student at UK naval college

A Filipina navy officer, the only female in a batch of 131, has been recognized as the best international student during their passing-out parade at the Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth, United Kingdom.

Of the 20 foreign cadets admitted to the BRNC this year, only 10, including Ensign Maycee Angga, made it to graduation, the Department of Foreign Affairs said.

The other officers in this year’s batch, who graduated August 11, are from Albania, the Bahamas, Egypt, Libya, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Ukraine and the UK.

Angga was also the first Filipino to attend and complete the 30-week training course at BRNC with the support of the Philippine Navy and the UK government, the DFA said.

The intensive training included a study visit to France, and a three-week ship acquaint where Angga was assigned to HMS Bulwark, an amphibious assault ship operating in UK waters.

Consul Rommel Romato, who represented the Philippine embassy at the passing-out, relayed Ambassador to the UK Evan Garcia’s congratulations to Angga.

The BRNC was established in 1863 as the initial officer training establishment of the British Royal Navy.
