Aside from fulfilling its internal and territorial defense
roles, the Eastern Mindanao Command (EMC) is also playing a useful role in law
enforcement operations as it helped in the neutralization of 12 high-value
criminal targets last year.
"Support to law enforcement operations was also given
emphasis with the President's directive for the AFP to join the PNP in the
fight against illegal drugs and criminality," EMC head Lt. Gen. Leonardo
Guerrero said.
He made this statement as the EMC celebrated its 10th
founding anniversary last Friday at Naval Station Felix Apolinario, Panacan, Davao City
The EMC was activated some 10 years ago following the
deactivation of the former Southern Command in Zamboanga City
He added that joint AFP-PNP operations during the past year
resulted in the neutralization of 12 high-value individuals that include wanted
criminals and drug offenders.
