Andanar: President Duterte's visit to military camps is part of tasks as commander-in-chief

From the Philippine News Agency (Aug 13): Andanar: President Duterte's visit to military camps is part of tasks as commander-in-chief

Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Sec. Martin Andanar on Friday said the visit of the President to military camps was part of the chief executive’s official tasks as the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

Andanar issued the statement following observations that President Rodrigo Duterte had been visiting the major military camps around the country.

Andanar said President Duterte has to visit the military camps just like the previous Presidents to boost the soldiers’ morale and to personally interact with them on the government’s programs lined up for the AFP.

However, Andanar said there were two military camps which President Duterte had visited that were never visited by the previous presidents.

“Lahat ng mga Presidente ay nagiikot (sa military camps) pero hindi lang nacocover lahat ng media. Kaya ngayon ang perception ay masigasig si President Duterte dahil fully covered ng media,” he added.

On Friday, President Duterte visited the troops in Camp Gen. Teodulfo Bautista in this province and met with top military officials to get first hand information of the ongoing focused military operations against the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) brigands.

Camp Bautista, which houses the Joint Task Force Sulu, is the eighth military camp President Duterte has visited since he assumed the presidency.

Meanwhile, Andanar said he could not say yet “as of now” what military camp President Duterte is going to visit.
