AFP verifying reports of ISIS terror threat in Davao City

From the Philippine Daily Inquirer (Jul 7): AFP verifying reports of ISIS terror threat in Davao City

The Armed Forces of the Philippines is verifying the reports of a supposed terror threat in Davao City from the Islamic State (ISIS) cited by Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte.

“I haven’t received any similar report but as always, terrorist threats are part of our intelligence units monitoring efforts,” said AFP chief Lt. Gen. Ricardo Visaya on Thursday.

ISIS is tagged in various terror attacks worldwide that have left hundreds killed. The local Abu Sayyaf group claims to support the terror group.

Visaya maintained that there is no presence of the ISIS and they are not capable to sow terror in the country.

Paolo said he has received reports of ISIS threats in the city. He is currently the acting mayor while Mayor Sara Duterte is on leave.
