Butuan City -- Joint police, military and the national support units
arrested at least two prominent red leaders and two of their members, and
seized a cache of firearms, ammunition, improvised explosive device,
communication equipment and subversive documents during a raid in Brgy. Tungao,
this city Friday morning.
In a press forum called forth this afternoon by Caraga
regional director Chief Supt. Rolando B. Felix at the conference room of the
police regional headquarters here at Camp Rafael C. Rodriguez this city, a
number of firearms and other confiscated items were presented to the local
media.
Felix identified the arrested New People's Army (NPA)
leaders as Roldan Bungolto, a.k.a."Itom" and "Loloy", the
suspected commanding officer of the "Militia ng Bayan" and team
leader of the Guerrila Front Committee 4-A and SPARU Unit; Danilo Acana, 1st
Deputy Secretary of GFC 4-A and the Commanding Officer of the Policard (NPA
Platoon). He had an arrest warrant for “Frustrated Murder” and “Multiple
Murder.”
The two others were identified as “Militia Ng Bayan” member
Jek-Jek Borja, a.k.a. “Rolando Borja,” and Tata Borja, a.k.a. “Anatalio Pison.”
Confiscated from Bungolto’s possession were a Caliber .45
pistol and a hand grenade while Acana yielded a Caliber .38 revolver.
The raiding team recovered 2 M16 Rifles, a Caliber .22
Sniper Rifle with a scope, an AK-47, a Caliber .38 revolver and the subversive
documents from Rolando Borja’s house, the subject of the search warrant.
Jek-Jek Borja, according to Felix, tried to escape from the
authorities. He was however pursued, subdued and checked. Found in his
possession were a Caliber .45 pistol and the IED.
Also recovered during the raid were various identification
cards, cellular phones and a picture of a village councilman, who was slain by
motorcycle assailants few weeks ago.
Felix said that they will probe deeper on these findings to
see the possible link of the apprehended suspects and the slaying of the
victim. The crime laboratory will also conduct ballistic tests on the
confiscated firearms to find out if these had been used on some recent or past
shooting incidents.
“Your regional police here remains to be committed to our
mission of enforcing the laws and to fight criminality, the campaign against
loose firearms and the accounting of wanted persons,” Felix said during the
forum.
He said personnel from Butuan City Police Office, and their
local counterpart from the military and the national support units, equipped
with search and arrest warrants, conducted the raid at about 5 a.m. Friday in
the hinter village of Tungao this city.
The arrested suspects be presented to the court during the
return of the issued warrants.
