Troops are pursuing a group of Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG)
brigands that killed two soldiers in an ambush on Sunday morning in Basilan
province.
Maj. Filemon Tan Jr., Western Mindanao Command (Wesmincom)
spokesman, said the ambush took place at around 10:25 a.m. in Barangay
Tumahubong, Sumisip, Basilan.
Tan said the slain soldiers belong to the Alpha Company of
the Army’s 64th Infantry Battalion based in Sumisip, but he withheld their
identities pending notification to the relatives.
He said the soldiers were aboard a motorcycle and on a
logistic run from Tumahubong to Sapah Bulak when the ASG brigands ambushed
them.
Tan said logistic run means the soldiers were either on
marketing or have purchased supplies intended for the Alpha Company troops.
The ASG brigands fled towards Sitio Gintalan, Barangay Sapah
Bulak, Sumisip.
Tan said the remains of the slain soldiers were taken to the
headquarters of the Army’s 64th Infantry Battalion in Sumisip, Basilan.
