The members of the International Monitoring Team (IMT-11) on
Monday rendered their exit call to the 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division Monday.
During their exit call, 6th ID awards the military
contingents with Bronze Cross and Military Merit Medals and the civilian
components with Certificates of Appreciation after having been instrumental in
the proper implementation of the guidelines of the agreement between the Moro
Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and the Government of the Philippines (GPH).
The IMT members whose duty ends later this week were
composed of the Indonesian and Japanese contingents that will complete their
tour of duty on June 29, 2016.
Indonesian contingents was led by Colonel Elphis Rudy and
the Japanese contingent was led by Mr. Takayuki Nakagawa, the chief coordinator
of the Socio-Economic Assistance Component.
Another group from both countries will be replacing the
outgoing team by first week of the July.
In 2003, the international monitors were created with major
role of monitoring the implementation of the ceasefire agreement between the
government and the MILF. They were deployed in various areas of Mindanao .
The presence of IMT, composed of contingents from Malaysia , Brunei ,
Libya , Indonesia , Norway
and Japan had improved the
peace and order situation in Mindanao and
reduced confrontation between the government troops and MILF combatants.
In a statement, the MILF also expressed appreciation to the
roles of IMT members in maintaining peaceful environment in areas where
soldiers and Moro rebels used to fight.
“It is very difficult to say goodbye to this kind of
individuals who sacrificed their lives in order to restore the just peace in
the Bangsamoro homeland,” Sammy Al Mansoor, Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces
(BIAF) Chief of Staff, said in a statement.
