Some senior officials of the Philippine National Police (PNP) may feel demoralized as the new leadership takes over on Friday, said outgoing PNP Chief Dir.Gen. Ricardo Marquez on Monday.

Marquez, who is retiring on Tuesday after 38 years of service, will be replaced by Chief Supt. Ronald Dela Rosa, a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1986.

Dela Rosa earlier announced that one of his first orders as PNP chief was to reshuffle police regional directors and national operating unit heads.

"Perhaps in the next six months, I may not know kung saan ako pupunta [where I will go]. I might be in limbo before I go on to retire this December," chief director of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Victor Deona said.

Marquez said he was saddened by the changes in the organization that might affect some good senior officers, but he was hopeful Dela Rosa would be considerate to them and would continue implementing programs that had improved the PNP.

Marquez spent his last working day doing several activities: He led the blessing of 48 new utility trucks of the PNP, signed a memorandum of agreement with the University of the Philippines-Manila for a child protection program, unveiled the marker of the PNP Civil Security Group's one-stop shop, and attended the inauguration of the newly renovated CIDG control center.

Deputy Dir. Gen. Francisco Uyami will be the acting PNP chief before Dela Rosa assumes leadership at the end of the week.
