Asuncion, Davao del Norte —Two of the three members of the communist armed lawless group (ALG) who died in the series of armed clashes in San Isidro, Davao del Norte (DDN) and Laak, Compostela Valley Province (CVP) last Wednesday, May 18 were minors or children recruited by the ALG for their armed struggle against the government. The third dead ALG member is an 18-year old.

Police reports identified the dead... ALG members as Rodel Gunay alias Dodong, 18, and Marjune Gunay alias Urong, 14, who are cousins and residents of Barangay Mabuhay, Laak, CVP; and Romel Perez aka Long-long, 17, a resident of Barangay Sta. Emilia, Veruela, Agusan del Sur (ADS).

The identities of the victims were revealed after relatives claimed the cadavers of the dead ALG members.

As reported earlier the three ALG members died during the three armed clashes between the ALG and troops of 60IB last May 18 at Sitio Booy, Barangay Pinamuno, San Isidro, DDN and Sitio Tugpahan, Barangay Imelda, Laak, CVP.

In the first encounter at Sitio Booy, a soldier, Pfc Romero A Celestial was killed while in the second encounter at Sitio Tugpahan, the cousins Rodel and Marjune Gunay were killed and three M16 Armalite rifles were recovered by government troops. In the third encounter also at Sitio Booy, Romel Perez died and one AK-47 rifle was recovered by the soldiers.

The cadaver of Marjune Gunay was claimed by the father, Eto Gunay while that of Rodel Gunay was claimed by the sister, Marilyn Gunay. The body of Romel Perez was claimed by his cousin Remelyn Cadenas, and aunts, Emma Perez Gemilga and Crisitna Sabusap Pabatang. The cadavers of the dead ALG members were all claimed on Friday, May 20.

In a related development, alias Dalia, 18 voluntarily turned herself to troops of 60IB at Laak, CVP on Friday, May 20 accompanied by several barangay officials. Dalia revealed that she was part of the ALG encountered by government troops on Wednesday. She also revealed that the members of the ALG were consolidating in preparation for the conduct of future atrocities in the area. Dalia also told the police that many in their group were “fresh recruits” by an alias Blady and his wife alias Avon, who promised them generous monthly allowance upon joining the armed group.
