JOINT police and military operatives have arrested a member of the Abu Sayyaf Group who was involved in the kidnapping of plantation workers in Basilan province 15 years ago.

Superintendent Luisito Magnaye, Zamboanga City Acting Police Director, identified the arrested as Regin Nasirin, who carries the aliases of Aling Imam and Aling Titing.

Magnaye said Nasirin is one of the followers of Basilan-based Abu Sayyaf leader Furuji Indama.

Magnaye said Nasirin was arrested in a joint operation around 3:50 p.m., Sunday, at Sitio Seaside in the village of Baliwasan, west of Zamboanga City.

Magnaye said Nasirin has standing warrant of arrest for six-count kidnapping and serious illegal detention issued by a court in Isabela City, Basilan province.

He said Nasirin was among the Abu Sayyaf bandits involved in the 2001 kidnapping of eight workers of the Golden Harvest Plantation in the village of Tairan, Lantawan, Basilan.
