From the Philippine News Agency (Apr 6): Trooper killed, another wounded in Oriental Mindoro clash

A soldier was killed while another was wounded when troops of the 76th Infantry Battalion clashed with an undetermined number New People's Army (NPA) bandits in Paluan town, Occidental Mindoro Wednesday morning.

The encounter took place 7:15 a.m., said Southern Luzon Command (SOLCOM) spokesperson Lt. Col. Angelo Guzman.

203rd Infantry Brigade head Col Gavin D. Edjawan said the encounter was the result of an operation launched by the brigade after reports of NPA presence from the the communities that continue to sow fear to the people.

The identities of the victims are withheld for the moment prior to the notification of their families regarding the incident.

“Pursuit operations are ongoing. Blocking operations are being set-up in probable NPA withdrawal areas. The PNP has also established checkpoints in strategic areas,” Edjawan said.

SOLCOM has utilized its air and naval assets to support the operations.

Naval gunboats are conducting naval blockade on probable NPA coastal "exfiltration" while Air Force helicopters are now conducting close-air support missions.
