Japan Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF) Minesweeper
Division 51 arrived at the Manila South Harbor
for a three-day goodwill visit at the Philippines Wednesday.
The division, which is composed of JS Uraga (MST-463) and JS
Takashima (MST-603), is commanded by Capt. Toshiro Takaiwa.
Philippine Navy (PN) delegates headed by Capt. Rolando F.
Sarmiento, Naval Combat Enginering
Brigade Training
Center head, rendered the
customary welcome ceremony.
Afterwards, they boarded the JS Uraga and briefed their
Japanese counterparts on security, safety and health.
The delegation head, Capt. Takaiwa, together with the two
commanding officers and Japanese Defense Attaché to the Philippines
Col. Hideki Tanaka are slated to render a courtesy call to PN
flag-officer-in-command Vice Adm. Caesar C. Taccad.
The visit is expected to enhance the already strong
relationship between the PN and the JMSDF.
It is another manifestation of a sustained promotion of
regional peace and stability and enhancement of maritime cooperation between
the neighboring navies.
