From the Philippine News Agency (Mar 2): PHL condemns attack on Saudi lecturer and embassy attaché

The Philippines has condemned the attack on a prominent Saudi cleric and a diplomat from the embassy of Saudi Arabia who were injured in a shooting incident at the Western Mindanao State University on Tuesday evening.

In a statement, the DFA said it “regrets” the incident on Tuesday evening which injured Saudi Islamic scholar Dr. Aid Al-Quarni and Saudi Embassy religious attaché Sheikh Turki Assaegh.

“The Philippine government condemns all forms of violence, especially as they occur in schools, which are considered zones of peace,” the DFA said.

“We pray for the speedy recovery of Dr. Al-Quarni and Sheikh Assaegh."

The Philippine government, it assured, continues to monitor the situation closely and trust that local authorities in Zamboanga City will conduct a thorough investigation on the attack.
