From Bernama (Mar 3): Army 3rd Division Commander To Head International Monitoring Team In Mindanao

Army 3rd Division commander, Major General Datuk Zamrose Mohd Zain will be the new head of the International Monitoring Team (IMT) in Mindanao, Philippines, effective March 14.

He replaces Major General Datuk Sheikh Mukhsin Sheikh Hassan, while 7th Brigade commander Brig General Mohd Hassan Loman will be the acting 3rd Division commander.

Zamrose said the IMT played a critical role in support of the peace negotiations between the Philippine government and Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and in continuing the momentum of resolving the conflict in Mindanao.

"For this year, we will continue with improvements and carry out the tasks entrusted to us by the government for peace in the region," he told a press conference, here, Thursday.

Earlier, the handing-over of duties between Zamrose and Mohd Hassan was witnessed by Army headquarters chief of General Staff, Major General Datuk Mohd Shukuri Ahmad at the 3rd Division headquarters, here, today.

Zamrose said he believed that with Mohd Hassan's capability and experience, he would be able to take the 3rd Division to be higher level in fulfilling the aspiratons of the Malaysian Army.

"I hope the welfare of the personnel can be improved such as through the building of homes for the officers and members, as we (Army) have been allocated RM89 million for this," he added.

Zamrose was commissioned as officer in the Royal Malay Regiment (RAMD) on Jan 24, 1981 and among the important posts he had held was as commanding officer of the 1st Battalion RMAD, commandant of the Army College and as 4th Brigade commander.
