PHL condemns Jakarta attacks

From the Philippine News Agency (Jan 14): PHL condemns Jakarta attacks

The Philippines has "strongly" condemned the attacks in Jakarta's business district Thursday morning, killing at least six people.

"We stand by in solidarity with our Indonesian brothers and sisters in this time of tragedy," the Department of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

According to DFA, the country's embassy in Jakarta is closely monitoring the situation and is in contact with Indonesian authorities.

So far, there are no reports of Filipino casualties in the attacks, it added.

The Philippines was once a target of terror attack in Jakarta by Muslim militants.

In 2000, Manila's top envoy there, Ambassador Leonides Caday, was nearly killed in a car bomb attack at his residence by suspected Jemaah Islamiyah militants.
