Curfew enforcement in the waters off the Eastern Sabah Security Zone has proven to be effective, says Sabah police commissioner.

The curfew imposed in the waters off the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (EssZone) will continue indefinitely, as it has been found to be effective.

Sabah police commissioner Datuk Jalaluddin Rahman said since enforcing the curfew, nine kidnapping attempts were foiled in the waters within the EssZone.

"In addition, we have also helped local fishermen carry out fishing safely, without having to worry about pirates or intruders,” he told a press conference after addressing Labuan police personnel today.

He said apart from curfew enforcement, integration operations involving all police chiefs stationed within EssZone, with the Eastern Sabah Security Command officials were carried out on a regular basis.

Meanwhile, he said the police had identified several towns and townships where cyber gambling was rampant. They include Kota Kinabalu, Penampang, Tawau, Papar, Kudat and Tuaran.
