FORT MAGSAYSAY, Palayan City, Nueva Ecija -- The 7th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army has reaffirmed its commitment to protect, defend and promote human rights as they joined the nation in the celebration of the National Human Rights Consciousness Week from December 4 to 10.

Major General Angelito de Leon, 7ID commander, has reminded the troops that it is a soldier’s duty as an advocate of peace to defend the rights of those not only under their area of responsibility but of each and every Filipino.

De Leon emphasized that the responsibility should not be taken lightly for upholding of human rights is the key to achieving peace.

He said that it the suppression and abuse of human rights which are the very source of dissent.

”I encourage everyone to value the mandate of their profession and pursue the goals of the Philippine Army without besmirching the reputation of the Army, serving with dignity and with a heart for the people,” he said.

Earlier, Lt. Col. Randy O. Remonte, Assistant Chief of Staff for Civil Military Operations, G7, led the pledge to human rights for all military officers, enlisted personnel and civilian employees of this command.
