Major General Angelito de Leon, 7ID commander, has reminded
the troops that it is a soldier’s duty as an advocate of peace to defend the
rights of those not only under their area of responsibility but of each and every
Filipino.
De Leon
emphasized that the responsibility should not be taken lightly for upholding of
human rights is the key to achieving peace.
He said that it the suppression and abuse of human rights
which are the very source of dissent.
”I encourage everyone to value the mandate of their
profession and pursue the goals of the Philippine Army without besmirching the
reputation of the Army, serving with dignity and with a heart for the people,”
he said.
Earlier, Lt. Col. Randy O. Remonte, Assistant Chief of Staff
for Civil Military Operations, G7, led the pledge to human rights for all
military officers, enlisted personnel and civilian employees of this command.
