Troops arrest 2 ‘Pentagon gang’ members in North Cotabato

From the Philippine News Agency (Nov 28): Troops arrest 2 ‘Pentagon gang’ members in North Cotabato

Combined military and police forces have arrested two members of a notorious armed lawless group in a law enforcement operation in North Cotabato, an official announced Saturday.

Major Felimon Tan, Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) information officer, identified Menu Maganaka, alias "Derby," and Rex Bacana, alias "Toto", both members of the “Pentagon Gang.”

The Pentagon Gang is a notorious armed lawless group involved in the trade of prohibited drugs, car theft, liquidation and other atrocities.

Tan said the two Pentagon gang men were arrested by combined forces of the Army’s 7th Infantry Battalion and policemen around 4:30 a.m. Friday in Kabacan, North Cotabato.

He said the arresting team confiscated from the possessions of the suspects an M-16 Armalite rifle and three caliber .45 pistols with ammunition.

He said the arrest of Maganaka and Bacana was in response to reports of illegal activities of the Pentagon Gang in the town of Kabacan.

“The apprehension of the two lawless group members and recovery of their firearms is considered a significant accomplishment by the government troops in their campaign to stop illegal activities in the area,” he added.
