Two feuding families in the municipality of Kalingalan
Caluang , Sulu, have signed a peace pact on
Tuesday as they have agreed to settle their differences, a top military
official announced.
Brig. Gen. Alan Arrojado, Joint Task Group Sulu commander, said
this came after the intercession of the police and military authorities as well
as that of the town officials, community elders and religious leaders of
Kalingalan Caluang town.
Arrojado said the signatories of the peace pact are the
groups of Hadja Samla of Barangay Karungdong and Senaida Mawali of Barangay
Kambing, both in Kalingalan Caluang town.
The town of Kalingalan Caluang ,
which consists of nine barangays, is a 5th class municipality in the province of Sulu with a population of 26,848 as of
the 2010 census.
The signing of the peace settlement, which was held around
2:30 p.m. Tuesday, came a day after the two families engaged in a firefight.
The firefight broke out around 1 p.m. Monday, which Arrojado
said the police and other stakeholders successfully pacified paving the way for
a peaceful settlement.
Arrojado said there was no report of casualties among the
protagonists during Monday’s firefight.
“The parties involved have willfully accepted the terms of
settlement and committed themselves to end unconditionally their differences
and misunderstandings,” Arrojado said.
