Trooper hurt in NPA IED attack in Saranggani

From the Philippine News Agency (Oct 8): Trooper hurt in NPA IED attack in Saranggani

A trooper from the 73rd Infantry Battalion was hurt during a New People's Army (NPA) improvised explosive device (IED) attack in Saranggani Wednesday afternoon.

Capt. Rhyan Batchar, 10th Infantry Division public affairs office chief, said the incident took place 5:30 p.m. at Sitio New Canaan, Barangay Pagasa, Alabel town as government troopers were checking for NPA-laid landmines.

While this, an IED suddenly exploded, wounding one of the soldiers.

“Fortunately, our troops strictly followed our SOP in clearing an area of land mines, thus avoiding serious injuries on our soldiers. Our troops did not want any civilians to be victimized by the wanton laying of land mines by the NPAs," said 73rd Infantry Battalion commander Lt. Col. Ronnie Babac.

It can be recalled that two innocent civilians were hurt by an IED attack of the NPA last March 24 in Sitio Totoy, Barangay San Jose, Monkayo, Compostela Province.

Marcelyn Domecillo, 12 years old and her grandmother, Rosalia Andaya were both wounded during the IED attack.
