3 former rebels receive financial assistance under CLIP

From the Philippine News Agency (Oct 8): 3 former rebels receive financial assistance under CLIP

Three former members of the New People’s Army have received financial assistance of Php50,000 each for their livelihood from the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP).

Department of Interior and Local Government Iloilo Provincial Director Teodora Sumagaysay, who facilitated the turnover of checks, said that the Comprehensive Local Integration Program (CLIP) is designed to help former rebels as they decide to go back to the mainstream of society.

Former rebels are given the amount so they would have something to use for their fresh start and livelihood.

Previously, the OPAPP turned over checks to two beneficiaries with three more on process.

Former rebels before they are given assistance though are being background checked if indeed they are genuine rebels.

Those that received assistance today are from Tubungan. One, who joined the rebel group while he was yet 13 years old in 1999, has already two children with his former rebel wife who’s also a recipient of CLIP and his brother in law.

The office of Iloilo Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office headed by Dr. Neneth Pador through the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office will do the monitoring on the livelihood projects of the rebel returnees.
