From ABS-CBN (Sep 23): Fire hits AFP Medical Center in Quezon City

A fire razed the nurses' quarters at the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Medical Center in V. Luna, Quezon City.

The fire, which started around 7 p.m., quickly reached third alarm. According to a witness, a power outage was experienced in the nurses' quarters before the fire.

Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Chief Supt. Jesus Fernandez said the fire was caused by a short circuit in the second level of the building, particularly in the room of a certain Captain Balogal.

An estimated P100,000 worth of property was damaged in the fire.

The fire was put out 7:55 p.m. No one was injured in the incident, except for one who sustained slight injuries after jumping from the building's second floor.

According to Col. Resty Padilla, public information officer of AFP, 81 officers were affected by the fire.

They have been provided temporary shelter.
