With Typhoon "Ineng" now threatening Batanes and
other parts of Northern Luzon , the Philippine
Army (PA) has alerted all its humanitarian assistance and disaster response
(HADR) units for possible emergencies.
Col. Benjamin Hao, PA public affairs office chief, said
their HADR units were to coordinate directly with the local disaster risk and
reduction management Centers nationwide for better coordination and cooperation
with all the stakeholders.
The PA is considered as the primary government agency that
can immediately be deployed as the first responders during disasters in the
country.
As of 11 a.m., "Ineng" continued to move slowly
closer to Batanes and Calayan group of islands, the Philippine Atmospheric,
Geophysical and Astronomical Services (PAGASA) said in its weather update
bulletin Friday.
PAGASA said that as of 11 a.m., the eye of typhoon
"Ineng" was at 130 km east of Calayan, Cagayan (19.4°N, 122.7°E).
Ineng, packed with maximum sustained winds of 170 kph near the center and
gustiness of up to 205 kph, is forecast to move West Northwest at 7 kph.
As it maintains its speed and movement, typhoon Ineng is
forecast to be in the vicinity of Basco, Batanes by Saturday morning.
By Sunday morning, it is expected to be at 395 km North
Northeast of Basco, Batanes and by Monday morning will be out of the Philippine
Area of Responsibility (PAR) or at 675 km Northeast of Basco, Batanes.
By Tuesday morning, it is at 1,355 km Northeast of Basco,
Batanes.
