Visaya pinned the medals on Privates First Class Ronel L.
Diorda, Gian Oswald O. Perida and Cpl. Gilbert G. Pacio of the 85th Infantry
Battalion.
All three are now undergoing treatment at the Camp Nakar Station Hospital
in Lucena City , Quezon.
Diorda and Perida were wounded-in-action in Atimonan, Quezon
on July 12 while Pacio was wounded-in-action in Mauban, Quezon on July 8.
“The pinning of the WPM is one way for us to recognize the
sacrifices of our soldiers who have risked their lives during the recent
encounters in Mauban and Atimonan for the peace and security of the people in
Quezon province,” Visaya said.
During the Atimonan clash, the 85th Infantry Battalion lost
Cpl. Michael Lubian, 29, the squad leader.
His wife, Asia Hannah S. Lubian, 27, happened to be present
at the Camp Nakar Station
Hospital to visit the
squad members of her late husband during the pinning of WPM.
They were married for two years and she is seven months
pregnant on their second child.
“The sacrifices and heroism of Cpl. Lubian will never be
forgotten,” said the teary eyed SOLCOM chief to Mrs Lubian. “It empowers us to
be a better and stronger organization,” he said.
SOLCOM extended financial assistance of Php5,000 each to the
wounded troopers soldiers while Php20,000 was given to Mrs Lubian.
The assistance is an augmentation to the benefits they
received from the 2nd Infantry Division and the 85th Infantry Battalion.
Visaya said operations would continue to address the more or
less 200 NPA remnants thinly dispersed in Southern Tagalog, who were desperate
to recover lost mass bases in these areas (Mauban nd Atimonan) which were
cleared around two years ago.
“We thank the empowered participation of the communities in
our IPSP Bayanihan by providing us with information about the NPAs, hence these
encounters,” he said.
