The Japan Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF)will train
Philippine Navy (PN) personnel search-and-rescue activities on June 22 to 24 in
Palawan .
The Maritime Training Activity (MTA) 2015 public affairs
officer Lt. (JG) John Windy Abing, in a message to the PNA, said that the JMSDF
would provide one Lockheed P-3C "Orion" maritime patrol aircraft
while the PN would use a Norman-Britten Islander patrol plane.
Formal opening of MTA 2015 will be held at the Antonio
Bautista Airbase, San Miguel, Puerto Princesa City Palawan.
Other activities of MTA 2015 include humanitarian assistance
and disaster response and maritime situational awareness training and
cooperation.
Earlier, PN spokesperson Col. Edgard Arevalo said that these
confidence building activities aim to foster camaraderie, nurture established
friendship, and promote interoperability of the two navies.
"This Navy-to-Navy engagement envisions to share new
tactics, techniques, and procedures as well as best practices to further
maritime operations especially now that the Philippines is nearing the rainy
season," he added.
