At least three persons were killed, including a soldier, in
two separate ambush incidents in Maguindanao Tuesday and Wednesday morning,
military and local police said.
The latest incident happened Wednesday night where two men
were killed when gunmen waylaid them in Barangay Pamalian, Datu Shariff
Saydona, Maguindanao.
Chairman Nasser Maliga of Barangay Pamalian said the ambush
occurred while the village was experiencing heavy downpour.
The victims' vehicle, a Toyota Innova, was found the morning
after a series of gun bursts on Wednesday night.
"Nobody attempted to come to the area where the ambush
occured, it was dark," Maliga said in his report to Philippine National
Police regional office.
The two victims were retrieved from the ambushed Innova
vehicle. One of them was wearing a police uniform.
Maliga said the victims have no identification cards and
wallets which he believed was taken by the ambushers.
The Army's 6th Infantry Division confirmed the ambush but
admitted it has limited information.
Capt. Joan Petinglay, spokesperson of the 6th Infantry
Division, said the Army is now helping the local police in the manhunt.
Reports have it that the ambushers were members of the
Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF), led by a certain "Sala,"
allegedly one of the sons of BIFF founding chair Ameril Umra Kato.
The Shariff Saydona PNP is still gathering information about
the incident and why the victims went to the area, a known bailiwick of the
BIFF.
A day earlier, five gunmen ambushed three soldiers in
civilian clothes while doing marketing chores in Datu Piang, Maguindanao.
Inspector Cesar Ibal, Datu Piang police chief, said the
victims were members of the 22nd Mechanized Company based in Datu Piang.
Ibal said one of the policemen died while two were wounded
and were rushed to a hospital.
He said the slain soldier was armed with a hand gun but was
inside his shoulder bag. His two companions survived by playing dead in a
nearby shanty.
Ibal believed the ambushers belonged to the BIFF group
operating in Datu Piang.
Investigation is still ongoing.
