Troopers from the 25th Infantry Battalion captured two
high-powered New People's Army (NPA) weapons during an encounter at Sitio
Makamaka, Barangay Casoon, Monkayo town, Compostela Valley
1st Lt. Vergel Lacambra, 10th Infantry Division
spokesperson, said the incident took place at 6:25 a.m.
Captured were an M-16 automatic rifle and an M-1 Garand
carbine.
He added that these weapons were seized following a
five-minute gun battle with rebels affiliated with the Guerrilla Front 3 of the
Southern Mindanao Regional Committee.
No casualties were sustained by government troops.
Pursuit operations also resulted in the recovery of an
unexploded landmine.
