From the Philippine News Agency (May 6): Militiamen recover IED in Agusan Del Sur

Militiamen, attached to the Davao City-based Eastern Mindanao Command, recovered on Monday morning a New People's Army (NPA) improvised explosive device (IED) and associated equipment at Barangay Magsaysay, Prosperidad town, Agusan Del Sur.

Lt. Col. Eduardo Gubat, Eastern Mindanao Command spokesperson, in a statement released Wednesday, said that the militiamen were from the Los Arcos Patrol Base, Barangay Los Arcos, Sibagat town.

Gubat said that the militiamen became aware of the IED's location after being tipped of by friendly civilians.

He said the recovered IED weighs 5.2 kilograms and has two meters of electrical wires and a blasting cap.

As of May 4, there are already 20 unexploded IEDs recovered by the troops on security patrol in the Eastern Mindanao area, 10 of which were planted by the NPA bandit group along roads in populated areas since April 1.
