Philippine government troopers from the 4th Scout Ranger
Battalion have arrested three New People's Army (NPA) bandits, who were tagged
responsible for the unprovoked burning of seven civilian trucks in Quezon town,
Bukidnon last March 8.
The capture of the three rebels took place 8 a.m. March 15,
a statement forwarded Tuesday by Eastern Mindanao Command spokesperson Col.
Romeo Brawner said.
The suspects were all captured in Palacapao, Quezon.
Concerned civilians tipped authorities of their whereabouts.
The three identified as Henry P. Omandam, 19; Vergel Pitogo,
23; and John Rey O. Flores, 16.
Recovered from their possession were one landmine, M-203
grenade launcher munition and two t-shirts with NPA logo.
They were turned over to the Quezon Municipal Police Station
Sunday afternoon for formal investigation and filing of appropriate cases.
"With the information coming from concerned citizens,
our troops are continuing the pursuit operations to run after the perpetrators,"
403rd Infantry Brigade commander Col. Jess Alvarez said.
In a separate incident, an NPA bandit was captured after a
forty-minute skirmish between troops of 25th Infantry Battalion and an
estimated 30 rebels at Barangay New Manay, Maragusan Compostela
Valley Province
around 4:45 p.m. March 16.
The bandits scampered to different directions after the
encounter, abandoning a wounded NPA identified as Brian Paul Lariosa Apollo,
25, as well as the recovery of the following war materials: one M-16 rifle,
four improvised landmines, 500-meter electrical wire, 18 backpacks, 13 pairs of
rain boots, medical and dental paraphernalia and assorted personal belongings.
First aid was administered by the troops on the wounded NPA
and then he was rushed to the Davao
Regional Hospital
with the assistance of the local officials.
No one was hurt from the government side during the
encounter.
