Abu Sayyaf commander Raddluan Sahiron
Abu Sayyaf fighters targeted by a military offensive in Sulu have taken to moving their hostages to other bands to keep the captives from being caught in the crossfire, a well-placed source in the intelligence community said Tuesday.
“They are moving around their hostages to avoid (their)
getting caught in the middle of the military offensive that’s been on going now
in Sulu for several months now,” the intelligence source, who insists on being
identified only by the code “Pokemon,” said.
Citing information he said was relayed by an informant
within the Abu Sayyaf, Pokemon said the latest hostage to be moved was a South
Korean snatched in Zamboanga Sibugay province in January this year.
“The Korean was moved by the group of Radullan Sahiron based
in Patikul, Sulu to the group of Edang Susukan which is based in Talipao Sulu,”
the source said
He could not immediately recall the Korean’s name but
records show that Korean businessman Noui Hong Sung, 73, was abducted from his
home in Barangay Mabuhay in R.T. Lim town by at least five armed men.
Pokemon pointed out that the military offensive is mainly
concentrated in Patikul, where Sahiron is based, and Indanan, where another Abu
Sayyaf commander, Alhabsi Misaya, operates.
Police have identified two of Noui’s kidnappers as Abral
Abdulsalam and Munib Enriques, alleged members of the Moro Islamic Liberation
Front who belong to the group of Waning Abdulsalam, which authorities have
tagged to a series of kidnappings in Zamboanga Sibugay.
After snatching the Korean, they allegedly passed on the
hostage to Sahiron in Patikul.
Since the release of two German hostages last October, the
military has been in pursuit of the Abu Sayyaf in Sulu.
