Seven improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were recovered by
military units during ongoing Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF)
clearing operations in Sitio Tatapan, Barangay Kitango, Datu Saudi Ampatuan
town, Maguindanao Thursday.
This was disclosed by Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP)
public affairs office chief Lt. Col. Harold Cabunoc Friday.
"While scouring the area, two platoons of the 1st
Mechanized Infantry Brigade recovered seven 60mm mortar fuzes, one plastic
container of ammonium nitrate, and one roll of electrical wire," he added.
Aside from that, operating troops also recovered one
ballistic helmet, gun powder, two magazines for an M-16 rifle, and a PNP
uniform.
"Clearing operations are still on-going in the
area," Cabunoc said.
"The AFP in coordination with the Philippine National
Police will continuously pursue the BIFF bandits who have scampered from our
intensified law enforcement operations," he added.
Cabunoc also said the military will continue to take part in
the on-going relief operations jointly conducted by local provincial and
municipal governments in the area.
As of Thursday, 116 BIFF men were killed in the ongoing law
enforcement operations which started Feb. 25.
Another 63 were reported hurt.
Government losses as of this posting are placed at six
troopers killed and 31 others wounded.
