From the Philippine News Agency (Feb 8): Trooper wounded as Army unit clashes with NPAs in Capiz

A trooper from the Army's 61st Infantry Battalion was wounded following a clash with New People's Army (NPA) fighters in Sitio Bulod, Barangay Roosevelt, Tapaz town, Capiz Sunday morning.

Security forces were conducting routine patrols in the area when they encountered around eight rebels at 8: 45 a.m.

A firefight, lasting for 15 minutes, then took place, resulting in the wounding of one soldier and undetermined number from the rebel side.

“This is the same group of NPA remnants that our troops in Barangay Katipunan, Tapaz, Capiz encountered last night at 8:10 p.m.,” 61st Infantry Battalion commander Lt. Col. Victor Llapitan said.

He also identified the wounded trooper as Pfc. Von Carlos Torres who was immediately airlifted and brought to a hospital in Iloilo City.
