CAMP ELIAS ANGELES, PILI, Camarines Sur - New People’s Army (NPA) rebels fired at the bayanihan team of the Philippine Army doing a peace development project in Barangay San Antonio,
Capt. Mardjorie Paimela P. Panesa, 9th Infantry Division spokesperson based here, said the incident was reported by the team from the 31st Infantry Battalion busy doing the project in the village.
The report said six members of the rebel group from the Larangan 1 Sorsogon provincial committee under one alias Hazel were involved in the harassment.
A team of reinforcing soldiers led by one Sgt. Dela Cruz later encountered Hazel’s group that was escaping, resulting in a brief firefight.
Lt. Col. Beerjenson Aquino, 31st IB commanding officer, immediately ordered all units to be always ready for possible attacks by the rebel group.
