AFP urges public to stand-by security forces in wake of bloody Maguindanao clash

From the Philippine News Agency (Feb 11): AFP urges public to stand-by security forces in wake of bloody Maguindanao clash

With various body now investigating the bloody Jan. 25 Mamasapano, Maguindanao incident, which killed 44 Special Action Force (SAF) members, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is appealing to the Filipino people to continue supporting the brave and dedicated men and women in the uniformed service.

In the same incident, Malaysian terrorist and bomb-maker Zulkipli bin Hir alias Marwan was neutralized.

"We call on our people to unite and stand behind our uniformed personnel, particularly our soldiers and policemen, amid the issues that arise from the Mamasapano encounter," AFP public affairs office chief Lt. Col. Harold Cabunoc said.

"Let us remember the heroism, bravery, and sacrifices of our policemen and soldiers, who stand ready to lay down their lives to protect our communities, our families and friends, and our way of life," he said.

Cabunoc also reminded the public that it is during tumultuous times that security forces need their support like you have supported the military and police during past losses incurred in the line of duties.

"You supported our troops, many of whom have paid the ultimate sacrifice, during past operations including the Al Barka incident in 2011 where we lost 19 soldiers; the encounter in Patikul, Sulu in 2013 where we lost seven Marines; and Zamboanga City siege in 2013 where 20 soldiers and five policemen lost their lives while defending the city against Moro National Liberation Front-Misuari faction members," he said.

"Let us stand as one nation to support our security forces and avoid the calls for divisiveness. We call on our people to exercise sobriety and be objective and discerning in our quest to know the truth and pursue justice," Cabunoc concluded.
