From ABS-CBN (Jan 30): 3 soldiers wounded in clash with Abu Sayyaf

Three members of the 35th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army (PA) were hurt in a firefight with suspected members of the Abu Sayyaf Group in Barangay Bungkaong, Patikul, Sulu on Friday.

According to information from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), members of the 35th IB were ambushed by members of the Ajang-Ajang/Lucky Nine group of the Abu Sayyaf.

The two group engaged in a firefight which lasted for almost 30 minutes. The rebels withdrew and scattered toward an unknown direction.

Authorities have yet to determine the number of casualties on the side of the rebels.
