Large areas of Central Mindanao were plunged into darkness Sunday night when another transmission tower of the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines was bombed in Pikit, North Cotabato.

Tower 41 in Barangay Batulawan was the second NGCP tower bombed since January 13, when three improvised explosive devices were set off at Tower 26 in Barangay Ginakit, Pagalungan, Maguindanao. That blast also cut power to large areas of Central Mindanao.

Like the IEDs used in the Tower 26 explosion, the two bombs that damaged Tower 41 around 8 p.m. Sunday were crafted from 81mm mortar shells and triggered by cellular phones, Pikit police chief Inspector Sindatun Karim said.

The explosion cut power for almost three hours to several towns of Maguindanao and North Cotabato, and Cotabato City.

Authorities have yet to identify the bombers and no one has claimed responsibility for the two blasts.
