Task Force 'Kalinga' activated for humanitarian assistance deployment in the Visayas

From the Philippine News Agency (Dec 7): Task Force 'Kalinga' activated for humanitarian assistance deployment in the Visayas

With typhoon "Ruby" unleashing its ferocious winds over a vast portion of the country, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) announced that the Northern Luzon Command, together with the Civil Relations Service and AFP General Headquarters, has activated its Task Force "Kalinga" for deployment and conduct of humanitarian assistance and disaster response missions in the Visayas.

This was after "Ruby" made landfall in Dolores town, Eastern Samar 9:15 p.m. Saturday.

Major Emmanuel Garcia, 7th Civil Relations Group commander, said that coordination is now underway with the Office of Civil Defense and the AFP regarding the deployment of the unit.

He added that military personnel and units in the threatened provinces were ordered to make themselves highly visible, aside from coordinating with local government units, government agencies, non-governmental organizations and provincial offices engaged in relief and rescue work.
