The 10th Infantry Division on Saturday assigned a lower
number of New People's Army (NPA) fighters killed during an encounter at Purok
3, Tagudyong, Libudon, Mabini, Compostela Valley Friday, from five to four.
"We would like make corrections to the press statement
released last night (Friday). Four rebels (bodies) and five firearms were
recovered after the encounter with the 71st Infantry Battalion. We apologized
for this inconvenience as we uphold truth and facts in informing the
public," 10th Infantry Division spokesperson 1st Lt. Vicente Alcambra said
in a message to the PNA.
The Firefight erupted around 2 p.m. Friday when the 71st
Infantry Battalion, on security patrol, clashed with undetermined number of NPA
rebels.
Seized were one M-653 rifle, three M-16 automatic rifles and
1 M1 Garand rifle, five bandoliers, 10 magazines for M-16s, subversive
documents and personal belongings. Pursuit operations are now being launched
after the fleeing rebels.
“This is part of our intensified efforts to curve the recent
series of banditry attacks perpetrated by NPA rebels, we will not allow these
lawless armed group from sowing terror in our communities," 10th Infantry
Division commander Major Gen. Eduardo M Año said.
Over the weekend, the rebels abducted two soldiers securing
a banana plantation in New Corella Davao Del Norte.
The rebels also attacked government troops securing an
ongoing road construction project in San
Fernando town, Bukidnon.
